Summer Buzz: Brussels

Summer is almost half way finished and you still haven’t decided where to take your next holiday? If you are tired of the typical beach getaway and looking to get lost amongst captivating medieval streets, vibrant squares and endless historical delights, we suggest you check out Brussels, Belgium. Apart from its famous beer and unique chocolate, the endless attractions and cultural heritage has turned the city itself into a trendy spot for the perfect weekend getaway. Sometimes referred to as ‘the European Village’ it is the metropolis of European culture and, we are sure you will become mesmerized by the endless museums, fascinating parks and unbeatable restaurants and nightlife! 

If you’re thinking of taking a stroll through the centre you will immediately become struck by the beauty of the Grand Palace. Located next to the Town Hall and guildhalls, the astounding building is the host to many festivals and  musical concerts every year making it the most visited and memorable tourist landmark in Brussels. The surrounded buildings are beautifully lit up at night, making it the perfect backdrop to any romantic late night walk. If you are lucky enough to be there every two years in August you will be able to witness the gigantic Flower Carpets which entails the entire square covered in a million of colourful begonias forming intricate arranged patterns. 

If you are a music buff you definitely can’t miss the Musical Instrument Museum which houses a collection of more than 8,000 instruments, making it one the largest collections of musical instruments in the world. You will be surrounded by original and traditional pieces from all time periods and continents. The museum itself is located in a stunning Art Nouveau building designed by architect Paul Saintenoy in 1899. The MIM takes the visitor’s experience to a whole new level with the savvy infrared audio-headset system which allows you to  distinguish the sound of each instrument at the same time while you are viewing it on display. It’s like a music lovers paradise! 

Are you looking for something off the beaten path? Try the infamous Marolles Flea Market located right in the heart of the Marolles district, open daily from 7 am -1 pm. You will for sure stumble upon treasures and trinkets, making your next souvenir purchase a snap! The unique charm and character of this charming market will leave you wishing you had more time to search for hidden treasures.

Located right in the heart of the city centre, The NH Stephanie is just around the corner from the internationally renowned shops on Avenue Louise. It is also very close to Place Louise, a hub providing bus, tram and metro connections making it the ideal hotel to spend your holidays.
