Today we introduce you to a very special NH Friend Lydia Fritzsche from the Marketing Department at NH Hotels. She spends part of her summer holidays every year in Barcelona, one of her favorite cities in the world. Don’t miss this exclusive interview where she lets us in on what makes this Mediterranean city unforgettable.

As a traveler, what attracts you to Barcelona as a city?

Barcelona is one of the most magical cities that I’ve visited so far. As a traveler, the city offers great opportunities for sightseeing and to discover it’s fascinating architecture, shopping and fashion, beach and relaxation as well as delicious food. If you ever visit Barcelona, you’ll always want to come back… it’s a city full of secrets waiting to be discovered.

For someone who only had one day in Barcelona, what would you recommend seeing?

This is a tough question because one day just isn’t enough time for Barcelona. Here are some tips: Take a walk through Park Güell, have a look into the church Santa Maria del Mar, relax at the beach and go for a swim at Bogatell Beach, enjoy typical tapas in the Gothic Quarter of the city and have a look at the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc at night.

What are some of your favorite hidden monuments around the city?

This is definitely the Montjuic Castle, an old military fortress, which offers great views over the city, the harbor and when the weather allows you can also see up to Tibidabo mountain. My recommendation: if you’re visiting Barcelona in the summer months (July/August), you should try out the open air cinema at the Montjuic Castle. It’s a truly magical atmosphere.

What is the best time of year to visit Barcelona?

I suppose that the best time to visit Barcelona depends on your own preferences and priorities. So far, I’ve visited Barcelona in the summer (June – August). I would also recommend to visit Barcelona from spring to early autumn. However, Barcelona is always worth a visit, regardless of the weather.

What other cities are on your must-see list?

This list is endless. Definitely on my must-see list in the near future are the following cities: Vienna, Munich, Rome, Milan, Rotterdam…

Do you share your travel experiences on Social Media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter?

Sure, I’ll share some of my travel experiences on Facebook. However, I’m not using Instagram or Twitter right now.

When traveling, do you pay attention to other users’ opinions and ratings?

Yes, it’s a great opportunity to get a first impression of the destination as well as some must-see tips and recommendations. However, I’d like to see and experience for myself as travel experiences are always subjective and everyone has a different understanding of their perfect vacation.
