Portraits at nhow Milano
The art and design exhibition Portraits redesigns the spaces of nhow Milano, from October 25th, 2012 to March 29th, 2013. Take a trip though art and and design through celebrities made of straws, fiber glass French bull-dogs, and fairy tales characters coming to life! You’re sure to come across Little Red Riding Hood wandering in a big city amongst advertising flyers, Snow White lying on the floor of an abandoned factory, or even a real size crocodile with skin carved in wood. Colorful bunches of cocktail straws drawing faces of historical characters and celebrities also adorn the exhibition space.
Painted, photographed, symbolic, analytic, oneiric, the selected portraits represent a wide range of investigation taking on different shapes between real and unreal, objective and subjective. The chosen media reveals the personal vision of the artist, and in the portrait of a known or unknown face the viewer can see their own portrait. Like when watching a film, one recognizes traits, positions, inner depths both familiar and unknown.
Anything can happen while walking through Portraits, like meeting Anna Caruso’s characters – Alice, Snow White, the White Rabbit- coming out of their fairy tales to plunge into the contemporary world. Into the lights and transparencies we also find in Francesco Granducato’s works, portraits made with hundreds of coloured cut cocktail straws. Anna Muzi’s paintings seem to be caught Between reality and fantasy, where teenagers brandish various weapons in front of supermarket’s shelves covered with beefsteaks and colourful vegetables. Alberto Zamboni goes for more monochromatic and hyperrealist portraits, where the subjects are explored through a deft use of light and shadow. Sound mesmerizing? You have until March 29, 2013 to experience this unforgettable exhibition!
