#WakeUpPics photo exhibition at NH Milano Touring

This last December 20, 2012 until January 30, 2013 we had the  opportunity to hold the#WakeUpPics III Edition contest on Instagram. We encouraged fans to upload their most inspiring Wake Up moments using the hashtag #WakeUpPics and share them with friends and the rest of the world.

In this III Edition alone we have received more than 5,000 entries and in total there are now more than 28,000 photos on Instagram with the hashtag #WakeUpPics.

The primary winner of the the #WakeUpPics III Edition was Instagram user and entrepreneur, Alicia de Luna, @aliceideasfrom Barcelona for this inspiring photo, titled  ‘2013 levanta el vuelo’ (2013 takes flight) which represents the dawn of a new day accompanied by a flock of birds, a symbol of freedom.  She had the exciting opportunity to join us for an Instameet opening of the exhibition in Milan on May 9th. This is where she also received her winning image on canvas. The two second prizes went to José Luis Sáez, @jl_saez, and Xavier Cantons, @xaviclick, who have been able to enjoy a weekend for two in one of our hotels.

The NH Milano Touring is the venue we chose for the two-month exhibition due to its central location and modern and elegant decor.

At the end of this exhibition, the 30 photographs will be given to five hotels in the city to form part of the decoration of the establishments, demonstrating once again NH Hoteles’ support for culture, art and design.

During the event, we were lucky enough to sit down and chat with winner @aliceideas. What did she reveal?

How has the experience of winning the III Edition #WakeUpPics been?

Quite a surprise. Since @ nh_hoteles launched the hashtag #WakeUpPics I became interested in using the tag for my photos because it is a concept that I like and it fits well with the type of compositions I usually photograph: sunrises, breakfasts… There are now more than 30,000 photos with the tag  #WakeUpPics so I could never imagine that one day my hobby would take me to Milan. I consider myself very lucky!

What else did you enjoy about the trip to Milan?

Milan is a city that I love and this has been a great experience for me  and a good way to disconnect. We visited the Duomo, the Scala…We wandered through the streets and, of course, went shopping! But the best experience was the welcoming from the Igers community in Milan and the NH collaborators at the opening of the #WakeUpPics exhibition at NH Milano Touring. Igers all over the world, if you pass through Milan you shouldn’t miss it!  I’ll take the opportunity to recommend you stay in one of the five NH Hoteles in the city: each one has their own style, the service is very attentive, and the hotels are very well located.

What would you highlight from the NH Hoteles that you visited in the city?

As I said before, the treatment from the NH Hoteles staff is lovely. We stayed at the NH Machiavelli, in the Brera district, near the shopping area of Corso Buenos Aires and just 10 minutes from Central Station. They are very helpful and will help you in anything you need, always with a smile. The room was super comfortable and quiet. You feel as if you were at home, you know?

Do you plan to hang your photo canvas in your house somewhere?

Of course! I am thrilled to have it, so I have placed it between pictures and drawings from my children. A special place that brings back fond memories of when they were children.

Why did you create an Instagram profile? What caught the attention of this community to have such an active presence?

Instagram started in December 2010. At that time I was pursuing my graduate studies in social networks and it was there that I discovered this application. Before creating my profile on Instagram I was fond of photography, so I decided to give it a go and see exactly what it was. From the beginning I was fascinated b yInstagram and I finally had a means to share my love of photography with other amateurs and professionals. The best thing is that Instagram is much more than that. It is a “place” where you can be in contact with people around the world with whom you share photography-moments, hobbies, likes, interests…and where the creativity of people never ceases to amaze.

Do you have a lot of contact with your Igers community? Have you made friends on Instagram?

Of course, whenever I can, I go to Instameets that #igersbcn and #igersgirona organize. The relationships created between Igers on Instagram is very interesting and there are a lot of cases in which they become friends in person. I speak from experience.

If you happen to be in Milan, don’t miss this unforgettable photography exhibition lasting until July at the NH Milano Touring. Admission is completely free for anyone who would like to enjoy the art of mobile photography! Will you miss it?
